VISUAL IDENTITY SYSTEM

Client: Studio Schanz
Brand identity / Digital design
Focus: Identity design · Typography · Visual systems · Digital application · Art direction

Building a reduced visual identity that could operate consistently across the studio’s physical and digital presence.

Role and Responsibilities
I developed the visual identity and its core design principles across typography, graphic elements and applications. The work extended from the identity itself into digital and communication formats, establishing a consistent system rather than a standalone mark.

Problem Statement and Goals
The identity needed to give the studio a distinctive presence without competing with the work and content it represented. The objective was therefore to create a restrained framework that could remain recognizable while accommodating changing imagery and applications.

Design Process and Methodology
The process focused on reducing the identity to a limited set of repeatable visual principles and testing how these behaved across different formats. Typography, proportion and layout became central components of the system, allowing the identity to remain consistent without relying on decorative elements.

Key Challenges and Solutions
The main challenge was creating distinction with deliberately limited visual means. Rather than adding more elements, the solution relied on carefully controlled relationships between typography, space and composition to establish recognition across applications.

Outcomes and Learnings
The resulting identity provided a flexible foundation for both digital and physical communication. The project demonstrated how a small number of clearly defined principles can produce a system with considerably more range than a collection of individually designed outputs.
